Brantley is a totally different quarterback than Tebow, one who feels much more comfortable throwing the ball than running it.

Despite his obvious respect for Tebow, Brantley said he doesn’t want to be like him and wants to establish his own legacy.

He said he won’t be one of start screaming and yelling, saying he is much more laid back than Tebow.

Brantley has waited three years behind Tebow for the opportunity to start at quarterback, and his time has finally come.

Meyer had his own health scare last year when high levels of stress because to cause heart problems.

The head coach said he ignored his health for many years and didn’t want his assistants to make the same mistake.

Something did show up with one of his assistants, but Meyer said it turned out to be easily fixeable.

The coach also realized that he needs to take some time away from football and plans on vacationing more in the future.

They might not be the defending Southeastern Conference champions entering this season, but the Florida Gators and their talent still demands plenty of respect.

That is evident from looking over the list of the All-SEC Coaches’ Team preseason squads, released Tuesday in advance of SEC Media Days. In all, 10 Gators made the team, including three first-team selections.

Making the first team from Florida were senior center Mike Pouncey, senior offensive lineman Carl Johnson and junior defensive back Janoris Jenkins. Pouncey made the team last season.

Seven Gators landed on the second team: junior running back Jeff Demps, senior linebacker A.J. Jones, senior defensive back Ahmad Black, junior defensive back Will Hill, junior place-kicker Caleb Sturgis, junior punter Chas Henry and junior all-purpose standout Chris Rainey.

Defending conference and national champion Alabama placed six players on the first team and nine in all.

Meyer agreed to the deal last August but never signed the contract, something that happens more often than you would think in college sports.

The head coach then went on to have a health scare that initially caused him to announce he would not coach in 2010.

He later backed away from that decision, saying he would be taking some time off, and then simply decided to come back altogether.

Meyer doesn’t have an agent, but he does consult with others about the terms of his contract.

Meyer said he is now taking medication for the condition and is hopeful that the chest pain is a thing of the past.

He said that the key was finding out what was going on in there and now life is a little bit better for him.

The coach said he felt like he had a toothache in his chest every morning when he woke up for the past three years.

The Gators are certainly happy that Meyer’s condition isn’t too serious and he is healthy going forward.

Tyus has declared himself for the NBA Draft but ultimately decided to withdraw his name before the deadline.

That means that the Gators will return all five starters from last year’s NCAA tournament team.

It’s the first time that will happen since the Gators won the national championship, which could be a good omen.

This team certainly doesn’t have that type of talent, but they should be able to reach the Sweet 16 or better.

It’s a tough hit for Rutgers after losing their head coach to also lose the team’s leading scorer.

Rosario said he is really excited about joining the Gators and that it is a completely different atmosphere.

The star guard was particularly impressed with head coach Billy Donovan and his success at the school.

Rosario can practice with Florida next year but cannot play in games. He believes the year off will allow him to really improve his game.

Since the last time the Florida Gators lost in the NCAA Tournament, two national championships have been brought home to Gainesville.

But not this year. The 10th-seed Gators gave No. 7 Brigham Young all it wanted in a spirited first-round game in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, but eventually ran out of gas in a 99-92 double-overtime loss at Oklahoma City.

It’s the first NCAA loss for Florida (21-13) since falling to Villanova in the 2005 tournament. In 2006 and 2007, the Gators won the national championship, then didn’t qualify for the NCAAs the past two years.

Kenny Boynton led the Gators with 27 points, helping bring Florida back from 13 points down in the second half to force the extra time. Boynton hit four 3-pointers in the second half. Chandler Parsons missed shots at the end of regulation and overtime that would’ve won the game for Florida.

The Gators stayed in it despite shooting just 43.6 percent from the field. Florida hit 10 3-pointers. Parsons led the team with 10 rebounds and scored 20 points. Vernon Macklin scored 16 points and Erving Walker added 12 for a Florida team that closed the season with losses in five of its final six.

Florida trailed by seven at halftime and at one point found themselves down 16 points, but they were able to tie the game up with just over 13 minutes remaining.

Maybe the Gators simply expended too much energy trying to mount a rally, but things quickly went downhill from that point forward.

Chandler Parsons led the Gators with 15 points while three other players were able to reach double-digits. Vernon Macklin finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

It’s always tough to take a break from the conference schedule only to have to play another quality team, but the Gators should have been able to take care of business on their home floor.
